Chipping a 230 F1 R26

Postby shmatt216 » Wed Oct 24, 2007 9:35 pm

Hello all
Anyone out there had any dealings with K-TEC Racing, the Renault tuning people? Got a 230 F1 R26 and was thinking of chipping it and want to know if:
a) Does it void the car's warranty?
b) Is it really worth the effort or does it upset the balance that Renault have achieved with this car ('tis bloody good as standard but a little more power never hurt, surely?)
c)life expentancy of the gearbox/clutch with 270hp and 290 ft/lb
d) how can I justify spending £470 on a piece og silicon to the missus?
cheers all
Steve

Well she didn't really agree.. It went something like this: I didn't tell her, turned up at home with it, dodged the verbal, took her for a spin and put her on the insurance. Now she keeps asking to borrow it. Bugger.

Tuning R26

Postby jaybyme » Tue Oct 30, 2007 2:42 pm

I already posted asking about tuning my R26,
K-tec said they've done about 20 ,225/230 meganes, with full mod's to
intercooler , air intake,Exhaust, Chip etc.
Hope someone writes in soon to let us know How this great car goes with
upto 280bhp

Thanks Jay
Yeah, it would be good to know how they fair after a few mile under them post mod. It's the warrenty thing that bugs me. Mine's 8 months old with 3900 miles on it and if I chip it then pop an engine or gearbox, will Renault tell me to sod off and pay the bill myself. It's a great car as standard; the more I think about it, the more i'm inclined to leave it standard.

tuning

If you do chip your car, take out insurance to cover your engine.
this will cover you instead of your warrenty.
With any tuning, you can expect more wear on clutch/gearbox etc.
All depends how often you want to drag race.
I myself am not to bothered about 0-60 times.
Just in gear acceleration on the Autobahns.
The standard car will leave most cars on twisty back roads.
I think if I lived in England,I'd keep the car standard,or just change air intake, intercooler and maybe exhaust. Then think about chipping later .
The R26 tested in Germany went round the short circuit at Hockenheim
In 1.18.6, (Porsche Caymen 1.18.5)
Leon Cupra with 240 ps, 1.20.30
the same as the special edition Golf 230ps.
0-100kmh, Megane 6.4,Golf and Leon 6.6,by 180kmh all the cars are equal.then the Leon and Golf have a slight advantage.
To put the time of 1.18.6 into perspective
Clio F1 1.20.2 (still faster than the Golf  )
Astra 240ps , 1.19.3,Focus ST,1.20.1,Civic,121.3,BMW 130i, 1.19.6,
Mazda 3MPS,1.19.6,Golf R32,1.19.4
So standards good enough for most :D

Alright,

the K-tec chip was developed by RS tuning in leeds, cost about £400 from there if your closer to them. You can now get something from paul at rs tuning to allow you to take off and put the remap on as you like, ie if you go for a long drive and want better fuel econemy take off, and add for abit of performance.
Theres loads of people had it done of other websites meganesports.net n performance-renaults.net everyone swears by it and rekons that its well worth the money.
Dont think anyones had any issues with clutch/gearbox's that ive read. Paul from rs tuning would be able to inform you better, he's in the process of building a monster bhp meg, new turbo etc.
Not sure about the warrenty, as i say ask on one of the other sites, theres loads of people with the knowledge on them.

Paul

Thanks guys
Some sound advice there. Took it out the other day on some of my favorite B roads and had an absolute blast. May just go the exhaust and induction route to give a little more power but a sportier sound. I suppose at the end of the day; if it's not broke, don't fix it!

Just letting you know ive just bought a r26 f1 230 and its had a remap from RS Tuning it came with tuning box?? which they have advertised at £699 !! You can pay for the tried and tested maps and down load them to your pc and flash the chip yourself its easy done.
well the car drives the dogs much better than standard better mid range, the power run peaked at 275 then dropped of to 268bhp,need a bigger intercooler from forge motorsport which is the same as k-tec and rs tuning and cheaper to maintain the 275bhp due to heater generation.

I had a pug 306 gti-6 before and well happy with this car by the way with a remap it done 0-60mph 5.9 secs on a slight down hill cant complain at that!!

My next mods would be itg air filter/exhaust system magnex or milltek/forge intercooler and maybe turbo pipe kit with samco hoses from k-tec this will make engine breather alittle more

hope this helps!
