Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has ever replaced the 'R' and '0' control button unit, and how easy it is to do? I was hoping that the unit would just unclip, and not need the steering wheel disassembled?
The cruise control works perfectly well, except for the '0' button. When I press it, I get a "CRUISE CONTROL FAULT" message along with the service light for as long as I press the button. When I release the button the system resets and I get "CRUISE CONTROL --.- MPH" and I can set a new speed. The brake pedal disengages the CC as it should, with the speed stored correctly, which is what makes me suspect the button.
I am aware that all four control buttons operate from the same two wires, with each button applying a different resistance accross the 2 wires, which is then read by the ECU to determine which button I have pressed. I figure that the wiring, including the slip rings, must be OK as the other 3 buttons work OK, again leading me to suspect the button. I see that the '0' button actually shorts the wires so the ECU sees 0 ohms across the wires, maybe the button contacts have a high resistance that the ECU doesn't recognise and throws up the fault.
If anyone has any thoughts, I would be grateful! Many thanks.

Re: Cruise control problem
Both buttons come together, they are very easy to replace, simply remove the airbag and the buttons unscrew and the wires unclip... Simples

Thanks for the reply... are there any precautions I need to take to remove the airbag? Thanks!

Disconnect the battery and leave it a while, should be ok. To remove it you'll see a hole in he back of the steeringwheel, push a blunt object in that hole to push a clip that holds the airbag in place while doing this push the airbag upwards from the bottom and it should slide out
