cambelt change on renault megane cabriolet?

Postby laurenf » Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:47 pm

I'm thinking of buying a renault megane cabriolet. I've seen a 2004 one for sale with 70k miles on the clock. It has FSH, but it hasn't had the cambelt changed on it, which is recommended at 70k miles on these cars.

I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what i'm looking at to pay for a cambelt change on it?

Also, is there anything I should look for on these cars? Any common faults anyone knows about?

Thanks :)

Lauren

Mine was around £600 at a Renault main dealer. That included the recommended water pump and coolant change at the same time. I also got them to throw in a brake fluid change for free as we were spending so much money with them.

Thanks for your reply :) I called my nearest renault dealer before, and they've quoted me £356 for a cambelt change which includes labour & VAT. is it worth paying the extra to get the water pump and coolant changed aswell?

As your car is well out of warranty, I wouldn't pay main dealer prices.
If you have a local independent garage you trust ask them to do it.
I bought the timing belt kit and auxilllary belt online for £81 and my local garage charged me £124 (3 hours labour) to fit them. So £205 in all. ( I didn't change water pump as the belts were done due to age, 5 years old, rather than mileage which was only 24k).
A water pump is about £25 and may add £20 to the labour cost.
I'd be aiming for £250 for it all to be done.

Come to think of it I think that price included a service as well.
