Big time changing of parts in the last two months...

Postby terry_mccann » Thu Jun 05, 2008 1:30 pm

Well, I really emptied my purse in the last two months....hopfully my car will thank this to me... :hm

I had

- the AC re-filled, which showed that the condenser module was leaking - €400
- Cam belt and waterpump changed - € 450
- ribbed drive belt and its tension pulley changed - € 200
- Breaks alround replaced (Discs and Pads) - € 300 in Ebay Parts and € 80 for having them replaced
- the used car warranty extended by 1 year - € 190

Adds up to the mere amount of 1140 Euros.... :cry

- Last summer I got a new Turbo - € 000 Warranty, luckily ;-) and it seems that it wasn't even damaged. But anyway, quite a safe feeling to know you have a new one...

Cross fingers that all these measures now have given me a reliable car that even goes way beyond the 60000 miles it has on the clock now....

I was really thinking of selling it due to the current costs for Diesel cars, but then again, having invested so much money I give it another shot, especially with my Megane sporting leather interior, rain and light sensor and Navigation system and other thinks that I would not be able to afford in a new car ....

Any thoughts? What's the situation in the UK? Are Diesel cars still affordable?

Cheers, Marco

used to have 1.6 vvti getting 32mpg
now got 1.5 dci getting 51mpg
although fuel more expensive gettin 60+% more miles to the gallon
depends on miles your covering
road tax £85 a year cheaper too thats about 740 miles worth of diesel
insurance less too for me

More expensive to buy but yes cheaper to run. Plus you dont have to floor it when over taking.

Well, next problem cropped up: Both my front strut bearings have snuffed it....when I turn the steering wheel with the car standing it goes screeeeetch.....it happened after I picked up the car from having its breaks replaced....it seems being on the lift and thus becoming light on the struts initiated this because before everything was alright....
But costs for that seem to be quite low..... 42 euros for each side's bearing and one hour labourtime which should be another 80 euros....

But hopefully after that there's nothing more to come....I hope...
