I own a renault megane 58 plate i havent used the car for a few months and battery died, i gave it a 24 hour charge and it started straight away only problem now is lights are on even when there switched off, indicators dont work but hazards do, 1st & 2nd speeds on wipers dont work but when it rains they work on auto speed. Ive checked on fuses in & outsides of car all seems ok. I finally took it to a garage they told me its the stalk but wanted about £200 for part + another £100 labour and vat. I bought a 2nd hand one and was promised it is definatly working, when i fitted it same problem. If i got to pay £200 for new part so be it but if it dont work im done. If some one can please help that would be fantastic. with thanks :( :( :(

Get it plugged in and code read see if it gives itself away.
I am always suspicious when I buy a used part and car still presents exact faults again what are those chances?
So is it the part or the car, you might find its needs the ecu cleared out of redundant faults before you fork out £200 for a new one.
How didyou charge it on the car or off, did you disconnect it or leave terminals on battery guessing at 24hrs it was a trickle charge.

Firstly, I'm not a Megane specialist, but I have a lot of years tinkering with cars behind me..

If you've had two stalks in the car, and both give the error, it's probably not the stalk. (Unless there is a common fault with stalks failing..)
The car was without power for a long time - it's more likely something electronic has failed during that time. There are a lot of possible culprits on a Renault..
How to find the fault? I'd plug in my cheap code reader (one of the bluetooth ones that connects to Android devices.).
If there really are no codes, then I'd take it to a local auto-electrics place that does free diagnostics. (T.H. Flory in Middlesbrough in my case)

Renaults (and especially Megane IIs) are notorious for electrical faults. Mine currently has two, but I know if I fix one, another two will pop up..
