Hi been to see my mates step fathers car he is 79 and just had a stroke and can no longer drive.
i have only looked at it on the drive as there was no -one there... but will probably call around tomorrow or friday for a better look
Anyway car is a 54 plate megane cc 1.6vvt with 38,000 miles, its been off the road since november since him having a stroke, had new disks all round and pads for m.o.t. have been told by my mate that there is a leak on the drivers side of the roof and that his step dad has repaired it by sealing it, not the proper job, anyway, as the car has been standing for a few months and currently i can;t really drive it. Its sorn, is there anything i should be looking for ?
Stave my mate said the battery needs charging... so probably will need to account for a new battery. please give me some advice...
car wont be doing a lot of miles in my use but a bit concerned about reliability, and repair costs, i normally do all my own servicing and pretty handy with the spanners.
thanks...Al..

Jump starting OK, make sure it's got all its history even though its low miles ,roof seal leaks are fairly easy to sort , have a quick search on here for dephaser problems , make sure the hand brake is not locked on with been stood , check for damp in the footwells as this could point to the drains behind the scuttle panel being blocked( easy jobto sort), and just have a general read through the problem section and preowner sections
What ever you find reflects in the price
Good luck

thanks on the reply....
I had a look at the car this afternoon we got it started they put the battery on charge for an hour it started up fine smelt a bit oily but it has been standing since november as its on a sorn, went over everything looks like it has had some paint at some stage on the passenger side above the window a small trim type panel. opened the roof that went fine, but there is a problem with the rear quarter windows, they would not go up or down on the front or rear switches, but go down when the roof opened and the one on the passenger side rear quarter took a bit of coaxing to return up when we raised the roof... i did notice there is a switch on the drivers door towards the back maybe this is broken to defeat the rear quarters, it would not be too much of a problem but would be a nuisance if the rear quarter fails to return up.....
what is the switch in the centre console next to the roof switch ?
car is a 54 plate 1.6 with 35,000 miles have checked all the mots other than the current... all seems to be ok he did buy the car in 2008 and assures me that it was one previous owner but is unable to provide the log book, or the current m.o.t. i suppose i can hpi to see the number of owners... car does approx 3,000 miles a year...

It opens or closes all four windows at once by just using this one switch.

To be honest I wouldnt touch it, the cost of replacing the controll module/regulator will very expensive unless you plan to change them your self, I bought a 55 C last year with 27K on it and although I like the car in many ways to be honest, I've had nothing but problems with it. If I were you I'd buy an MX5 and save yourself lots of mither!
