cam shaft position sensor

Hi all, had a problem with the cc today, 1.6 16v vvt, engine cut out every time my wife took her foot off the power, so, would be unable to get home tomorrow, so I told her to ring our recovery, when the guy arrived he plugged her in to his computer (the megane not my wife)and it came up with cam shaft position sensor: performance problem,
he told my wife as long as she keeps.the revs up.it will get her home no problem, but he also said that this is an easy repair, all I need is a 13mm spanner, and the part should only cost around £20, if this is correct, I'm going to do it my self, it would be my first ever repair, would any of you say this is ok for me to do as my first job.
The reason I want to do it myself is, the alternator belt went, due to a seized ac compressor, and the garage quoted £400, but actually bypassed the acc, and charged us £80, a big savings yes, but still money I really havnt got, so what do you all.say.

Changed that part, still the same now computer is chucking up the p0010 code, looks like dephaser or cam sensor short or open, help lol

Did you resolve this?? Looking at the FAQS and Problems sections, there are fixers for the dephaser problem and the cam sensor is what you changed, wasn't it??

almost £700 later and still got the same fault, had the cam position sensor changed, no joy, then ddephaser, cam belt, and waterpump changed, no joy, then our guy took it to a French car specialist, his computer came up with no faults, but he noticed that the petrol cover didn't lock, and when he smelt the petrol he said it was contaminated, so, our guy took tank out, cleaned it out and all fuel lines, fresh fuel, no joy, our guy gave up.
When I had the receipt from the French car specialist, I noticed he also advised that the catalytic converter was not functioning at all, our guy failed to spot this!!!!!!.
Im now skint, and still have a car with the same fault it had in the beginning,
Could it be the catalytic converter causing this, not the it matters I'm too broke to spend any more on it for the next month at least.

Ouch, nasty I'm sure I was reading something somewhere about a certain fault causing catalytic converter failure if left... Worth a search??

Apparently running like a dream now, took me over a £1000 to get there though, many a lesson has been learned i can tell you.

What a sorry tale, you have my condolences. Worth tackling the guy that did the dephaser to ask for a refund I think.

A sorry tale indeed, i dont paricularly want to even see him again let alone negotiate a refund, my wife and i are agreed i wont contact him. I still owe him £80 from his so called bill, i told him it was damage from thre job he did, and he hasnt been in contact asking for his money, needles to say, i wont be offering it u.
