folding mirror weirdness

Ok, so I have always assumed that the mirrors on my CC are not able to fold in themselves. When I have folded them back manually they did never feel like there is any mechanism behind them of any substance. Anyway, today I was reversing and noticed that the passenger side mirror needed adjusting so I fiddled with the knob on the driver door and, well, to my surprise the passenger window folded..... but in the OPPOSITE direction, ie it ended up facing forward instead of being nearly flush to the passenger window. Odd, or WHAT. The driver mirror didn't budge at all.

I cannot reproduce this despite lots of knob fiddling (ooer missues, etc etc)

Anyone know what might be the cause here? Am I right in saying that normally to get mirrors folded you just push the knob down towards the mirror/arrow symbol to get them folded?

Got this sorted.... God knows why the mirror bent backwards but I tried turning the driver side knob all the way around to the 'six o'clock' position and they folded in just fine. Previously I was expecting the folding to occur when I put the knob to the central position and then pushed it down. Hey ho!
