four holes on rear bumper

when cleaning my cc at the weekend I noticed that there are four holes in the top of the rear bumper, normally hidden when the boot is closed but I am wondering if they should actually be blocked with granites or a seal of some sort? they cannot help when it comes to leaks into the boot.... Anyone care to comment?

Hi again. I've had a look at mine and there are 5 square holes that go up to the bodywork. One in the middle and two either side. They are drain holes for the bumper. You can see the floor through mine. No grommets.
