Odd electrical gremlins

Postby Hessy » Thu Jan 09, 2014 6:49 pm

Hi I hope you can help. I had problems with water in the passenger foot well last year. Turned out to be blocked drains under the windscreen.
That was sorted and its dry even after all this rain but now I'm getting odd things like the headlights coming on, the wipers playing up and the central locking going crazy! not happening all the time but I'm sure it wont get better.
Other half says there is some control unit behind the glove box that may have got wet. Can this be removed and checked without the whole system having to be re programmed by a 'Renault dealer.
Or is it a red herring and the fault is likely to be elsewhere?
Any advice will be welcome.

make sure that the access hatch for changing the head light bulb in the passenger wheel arch liner has its cover in place, this stops wet getting to an electrical control unit

Yes the cover is in place. The water got into the passenger cabin. I understand that the UCH is above the passenger foot well & behind the glove box. We Want to take it out to make sure it's dry and that the connectors aren't corroded Just worried that it may loose some vital settings if it disconnected & then need to be re programmed
Has anyone any info?

Just done the exact same fix on our Megane.
I've just pulled the drain pipes out of the scuttle and thrown them in the bin, there is nothing to get blocked that way.

Wipers was the unit it's self. The motor mech had all gone gooey inside.
It's dead easy to take out, and there is a plastic cover that is held on with 4 clips. Pull this off, WD40 the mech, and clean up with a rag.
Maybe chuck a load of silicone spray, or some electrical spray in there, and put it back together, and give it a shot.
It's sorted ours out.
