The Mégane II Owners' Club

Under the back bumper are to cast iron weights described as counter weights. As the tow bar I am fitting is also very heavy are these weights required, and what do they do . What will be the effect if I leave them off? Seems a pity to lug all this extra weight around,

I have a towbar to fit to my CC and in the instructions it say disguard the iron weights but save to refit if tow bar removed

thanks I thought that might be the case
I still wonder what they are for !!
