Have you checked for water in the doors, it sounds to me like something has short circuited.. The burning smell is not a good sign and suggests an unrepeatable level if damage, personally I'd take both door cards off and have a look to see primarily if there is any obvious damage, after this if check the working condition of the motors, check the current from the switch to the motor, you should be able to tell at this point if the issue is with the switches or the regulator and motor..

Let me know how you get on, feel free to ask more questions I'll do my best to help!

Thanks Joe, well had one door card off that was enough(hidden scews and broken clips) no water no power to the motor, got 12v at the switches but was bothered about putting power to the motor as all the cable going to it are black, checked all the fuses inside the car none blown but found another problem, all my rear lights except brake lights are out, i wonder if i have had a wire loom fire. Looks like i will have to look for a trusted auto electrician on Monday.

Hi,Im new to the forum and this is my query! I have a 2 door Megane CC 1.6 2005.Can anybody describe to me please how to remove the inside, back passenger side panel so i can get to the window regulator or motor. My back window is stuck in the up position.I managed to get half the panel out but the rest of the panel is held by the back seat somehow.I removed 4 bolts from the boot which secure the seats but the seats still do not come off so i can remove the side panel.
Any help or photo would be much appreciated. :?

There was a post on here search for rear window regulator is was quite in depth on how to get to it.
Basically:
You need to drop the roof.
You will then see (one on each side ) by the rear head rest inbetween this rest and the rear side windows a plastic flap you need to slid n pull to get it un clipped there are two torx bolts one eaxh side holding back seat (back rest) in place, it ia a long time since I did one!
To ge tthe side panel out you need to first remove rear seat completly, base is clipped in place by push fit clips you can feel them on the bootm fron edge of rear seat base there are 2 a good pull up on each of them will lift out the base you wil then see the lower bolts holding the back rest in the upper bolts are as above behind that silly flap, you will also need to remove the rear seat belts again once rear seat is out it is obvious how they come out.
The side panel is held by those silly push n twist plast clips you will be able to see them all now rear sear is out but you will also have to remove the front seat belt lower anchor (that long rod by the bootom of the door) difficult to explain! bolt out is simple enough the other end which is hidden is a hook, so one the bolt is out think od a dot and a slot you will need to push the rod back to disengauge the hook from the dot, move it side ways and the slot allows the bar to come out if you know what I mean, thisallows the belt to be loose so when the side panel comes off you can feed the belt through the slot in th side panel and get the panel right out of the way.
you also ned to remove the window seal which also is conected to the door jamb prise him up on the out side carefully as it bends quite esaily with to much force = knackerd! this can be pulled off up to the boot lid let it hang around there pulling it completly off make life hard later its a pig to get back on.
You should now have seats out, belts off and front seat belt off, seal off, panel will pull off now.
The window reg needs to be lifted out withthe glass attached upwards if you look inside the chanel by the glass you will see some 10mm bolts remove them there is also one in the middle of the (door panel section) you will see it recessed it affect how the glass "leans" in or out !
one the glass is out again it is obvious how it comes apart, be careful tightening the glass clamp bolts as overtightning will cause glass to crack!
If you have no reg no worries as you can strip out the cables to the regulator, purchase two nuts n bolts feed them through the lifter slots on the regulator plate (again simple to see one the complete reg is out, it sits on a control plate to give it its unique opening motion, slots will be obviouse) pur bolts through wehn glass is at top of run (closed postion) and tighten bolts, window is now secure, replace and ajust connect to plug roof will work fine.
If you have a reg, then change glass over and insert back into car as it came out, looking at the cars panel (bodywork behind the plastic panel you have taken off) you will see 3 large plastic gromets, remove them inside here there are 3 x 10mm bolts, these bolts adjust the glass against the door and roof seal, you will need to connect up reg wiring loom, put window seal back close front door put roof back up, once roof is up you can adjust the rear window through these 3 x 10mm bolts make sure it touches the front door seal, abd roof seals and it is square also make sure it is not leaning in or out to adjust this remember the blot in the center on the panel that alters the "lean" you can pull the window reg in so it throws the glass out war or visa versa to make sure it sits on the seal ok, open and close window a few tomes to make sure it sits in the roof seal ok.
Once you are happy with its postion tighten it all up fully, drop roof and put it all back together.
It took me around 2.5 hrs 1st time to do this, I used the wife to help me with the postioning of the glass as you can't see a lot from inside plus you need the front door shut as well, it all sounds a bit daunting but it is really not that bad, I did my last one in an hour, well bolted it up so it does not open, try this link.
