1.9DCi top engine mount

I am having some discussions shall we say with a parts supplier, who supplies me with a top mount, it has been on a month within this time the vibrating hum has come back to the point where the car vibrates as much if not more than when the old mount was on, the supplier tells me it is another mount gone not his.
My Question to anyone with a 1.9DCi is:
open the bonnet and have a look down the gap between the engine and body on the expansion tank side, you can clearly see the top mount without removing anything, what I want to know is?
have you got a gap? so when you look at the top mount is there a gap between the top part of the mount where it bolts to the engine and the lower rubber ring section of the mount, I am guessing there should be as if this top half touches the bottom rubber section then there is no way it wont transfere sound, as the engine is no longer fully insulated from the car body.
The supplier says! this is not a solid mount but fluid filled there is a "flat" on the bottom of the top section for it to "rest" on the lower rubber ring when it needs to! (what when it gets a bit tired!)
I think there should be a small gap between the two red lines in the image below when the mount is on the car, mine rests fully on that lower red line, does yours? bear in mind it may only be a small gap but I tihnk it should be there otherwise what is the point of a "fluid" mount when it rests on the lower part on the mount anyway. The silver square you can see is the section that bolts the engine.

MMmmm must have been a difficult one this! didn't really think it was that technical looking at a gap to see if there is one, shame really as it would have given most an idea if that mount had gone when you start on the vibration trail might have saved you all a big garage bill for duel mass flywheels which seems to be the general idea when there is a vibration.
Lucky for me a Renault tec gave me the low down on the mount.
So two fingers to all the garages who tried to stich me up into a £1000 + flywheel job, vibration now gone!
Sad really no other owners could help.
:-(

Hi Chris, sorry I couldn't comment only mine is the 2 litre petrol. Out of curiosity though did you mean that the area of rubber by the lower red line was touching the body and what exactly did the Renault tec tell you, I'm a little confused, mind you that's often the case!

I have a 2006 1.9 Dci and it suddenly started to vibrate with engine speed ? took to garage who found no real fault expect heat sheild touching exhaust but pointed out that the dual mass fly wheel might cause it but if i could live with it to carry on till it breaks as cost is so much( thank you most would just change it ) I found on the net possibly top engine mount goes only visible when dismantled so i took off the plastic cover to notice the was a fresh mark on the mount and on trying the bolt found it lose and could pull it out with my hand ? took it back and on stripping down thinking it could just be bolted back found the bolt had snapped so now awaiting new bolt , but much cheaper than a new fly wheel ect
