wind deflector....

Postby V5DWC » Tue Jan 03, 2012 5:04 pm

hi everyone,

im brand new to convertible driving and even though its freezing i love it.....

however i have many great things about wind deflectors, can anyone give and good recommendations? ive seen many diy plexiglas ones but im not sure they would work for front seat passengers? if so does anyone know where i can get one as im useless at diy so dont fancy making one myself :-(

also i have seen many on ebay for the folding official deflectors but i cannot believe the prices...£180

is there anyone on here thats selling a deflector as i would love to have one.....

any and all information would be a great help, even if its a guide on how to make my own from the dreaded plexiglas lol

thanks

dave

A tiny bit cheaper but they are dear. Maybe look for a replica.

The wind deflector is so good that I had the roof down yesterday with 7 degrees warm.

hi,

thanks for the link...still in shock with the cost but it seems as though they are worth it!!

i might just try and make a plexiglas one first as itll only cost about £20-£30 to try and will be hugely satisfied if it works :)

have you heard anything good about the plexiglas ones, have you any idea if they stop wind from the front seats of the car too??

thanks

dave

I have a plexiglass deflector fitted to the rear headrests..
It does allow the rear seats to be used, which the fabric deflector blocks, but isn't very effective.

When it's just me in the car (which is most of the time) I used the renault fabric deflector.

It should be the same, I got a second hand one from a phase 1 and it fit on my phase 2.

Hi, I recently purchased a wind deflector from ebay. It is not a genuine Renault one and cost £113. Best thing I ever did. No more cold arms after driving a long way with the roof down. Its left in permanently now as theres just me and the wife (Kids got their own cars now!) so the back seats never get used.

Hi all,any idea if you can buy the plexiglas rear deflector anywhere.....I don't fancy my DIY skills :(

We have as all child so the official big deflectors are no good as it covers the seat.

I can certainly recommend the Renault deflector-i thought that with the windows up and the roof down the car would be ok-but it was terrible, but with the fold down Renault item it is incredible-it doesn't look like much for the money but boy does it make a difference!
I made a plexi glass one for my Z3 with a sheet from B & Q,cost about £25 and fastened it on with velcro straps and it makes a heck of a difference, but there is still more wind than in the Renault,it was tricky to cut as i used a jigsaw(electric) but what i didn't realise was that as i made a cut the heat of the blade was resealing the cut! In the end i had to go back round with a heated knife to recut, but it was fine in the end.

what a nightmare!!

ok so i bought this one above from ebay but inly went to fit it yesterday (big mistake!!) the issue is that it just isnt wide enough to fit the guide holes in the back of the car.
Im wondering if im missing an adapter or something??? it is definately a deflector for a mark II megane cc but just cannot fathom out how it would possibly fit the car???

any idea's.........

Hi,I can only help with the Renault one which folds.Once opened up and clicked together it simply slots in-there is a spring loaded part that clips in the rear quarters, could this be missing? Otherwise is straight forward,if that part is missing I'm afraid you have a dud.Hope this helps.

Just received a wind deflector I bought on ebay 3 days ago. Seller is called UKno1tuning. They do deflectors for many different makes. They were looking for £113 for Megane Mk 2 CC deflector but were open to offers. I stuck in £90 offer and it was accepted much to my surprise. Postage was an extra £7.99 here to Donegal, Ireland. Its not like the genuine Renault one but a solid version of that. Its very sturdy and well constructed. I fitted it in 5 minutes and off I went. The difference is phenomenal. No air at all blowing around inside car. A fantastic purchase.
The clear plastic deflectors that strap to the rear headrests are a complete waste of time as the wind coming over the screen dips down into the back seat area rendering the piece of plastic strapped to the h/rests redundant. A friend made me up one and I threw it away after one test.

is there any kind of deflector that fits to the front as i have a child that sits in the back so cant use the proper one and the plastic ones dont seam to have a good response.

maybe this would work stuck just behind the screen using suction cups ????
