Any advise greatly received..I have an 2004 Megane Cab which wont start It started with the locking sysem not working correctly, couldnt unlock the petrol cap and the doors locked intermittently ... now it wont start at all !!.. Have been told that it could be a problem with the key card does anyone now if I could get it reprogrammed and how much it would cost ? ... Dont want to pay Renaults inflated prices..Many Thanks

No spare card key, or is that the same? As far as I know the only thing that breaks in the keys are the buttons. The code in embeded in the chip and read by the car when it's in the slot so there is nothing to break. Could be a problem with the slot and it's not reading the card. If so then you can get one from a breakers as it does not have to be coded to the car like the cards.
TBH If I were you I'd log on to and join the Renault forum as there's a much bigger knowledge base for sorting out obscure problems like this.

I would say it is quite possibly the slot, they do suffer from dust so I am told and some have got away with a simple hoovering job on them you could try that 1st see if you can suck any crap out and try again, cards can only be reapired as long as they start the car, the micro switches break on the mother board inside the key as the card is to soft and flexable and the board isn't again another French crap idea, but as said even if it wont lock or unlock and you have to use the little key the car should still start, I have hands free and mine went awol but would start the car as long as the card was in the slot, if it wont then 9/10 times the slot is at fault.
Don't buy a card off ebay, they wont work and can not be re programmed, not matter what they tell you to sell it to you. if you only have one card then you need to use the main dealer for the new one unfortunatly...
There use to be around a two week wait, don't know if there still is.
The slots are fine off any Meg.
Main concern is the locking went funny! this should not affect the car starting via the slot, I am guessing you are putting the key in the slot if not then do so, as said mine was hands free would not let me in via buttons or door sensor nor would it start car, dash told me card not detected, it did start when it was in the slot. I had micro switches repaired and a battery conector repaired. all works fine.
There was another avenue to explor, I vaugly remember when searching for an answer reading about door lock sensors going kaput which left the car unable to lock/unlock or start, this was over two years ago now so can not remember where i found it, but do try https://www.renaultforums.co.uk there is quite a lot of technical information on this site, I know Scenic suffer a lot from slot problems, but I would not of thought it would hamper entry, I take it you have tried the usual battries etc. but as said if hands free try the card in the slot if you havn't already, try the hoover trick as well, you never know.
