The Mégane II Owners' Club

I am due to change the oil and filter on my 2006 Megane CC 1.9 (FAP) shortly however it is a pig of a job to access the filter, and there is barely enough room to get the old one out or the new one into place (I have done it twice before). Does anyone have any tips on improving access? also the filter is quite large- its longer than the one on my 1.6 scenic- could the shorter one be used? does anyone know the correct part number for the filter?

I actually used the shorter one on my 1st oil change year before, didn't realise there where two till last year when I recived the longer one and WHAT a pig to get in, sorry no idea on part number it was a WIX filter I think, well both where from same suplier didn't seem to make a bar of differance, ran it for a year on it 18K all was well and still is, coming up for next change soon, should be interesting getting the longer one out! when it has oil in it......

incidently, on the 1st oil/filter change for me I put the two filters together like you do just to be sure and they where the same size, the filter I took off was from the Renault dealership where it was last serviced in Mid Wales, I have the invoice for it from the last owner. so seems they used the short filter as well. Can't Think why!! perhaps something to do with temper tantrums and air con pipes and grazed hands.

The filter part numbers are as follows: 82 00 274 858, 82 00 768 927, 82 00 867 980 (they are interchangeable). If it is too tight around the filter and you don't have the required filter wrench, you can use a piece of string/rope to unscrew the filter. Put the string/rope around the filter once so there is a full circele around it and take the ends through the little space you have around the piping. Hold one end of the rope to make it tight, and pull on the other so you can unscrew the filter. Do not forget to put a piece of cardboard paper under the filter so you don't make the mess with oil on the compressor piping etc.

The small one is excellent as it fits in the small space nicely and can be twisted really easily, to undo the filter, grips it with out damage, and on the plus side for me with rather large hands once new filter is on you can use the rubber wrench to give it a slight nip tight as well, size of my hands I don't seem to be able to get enough purchase on it in the tiny space you have to seal it fully, it always drips a bit, another slight turn with the wrench job done. I know you are not supose to, but I would rather give it that half inch turn to seal than let it drip....
