You'll probally find Stardust that nobody on here knows how to take it off, it does not apear to be that technical on here yet I get the impression that most people who own these cars garage them the instant something goes wrong with them, and of course the garge will not tell you what they have done in detail.
At present there only seems to be a few of us willing to attack it with spanners on here and then post how to attack it, break it completly or fix it, flustrating isn't it when you want an answer.
I came here from the Fiat forum, which is superb for technical questions you would get at lest 4 good in depth replies to almost any question and masses of technical help as they are all pulling them apart, ok if you have the money to throw at it which at present is getting more scarce by the day and mine at 2004 and 79k on it is getting to the point where it would cost more than the car would be worth soon, plus I always think it is better to know your car intimatly, the amount of work that I had to d oon my car last year if I just dumped it in a garage it would have cost around £2K with parts and labour, which expalins why the lady got rid and I paid £5.5k for it with only 42k on the clock, but thats life I supose!
I did look at my wheel a few weeks back as I spotted a black wheel with chrome insterts on it proper Renault wheel with airbag, but after looking at mine I could see how it came off at all, the fiat had 2 hidden screws under the wheel to remove airbag and get to the center nut, this CC gives no clue at all, as usual!
just stick with us Stardust post your job details for the rest of us and hopefully more of us will start repairing our own and passing info around. you never know eventually we may even get our own technical section, long after we have gone me thinks but you never know!

I know this is too late, but once you have the airbag off, it's obvious how to remove the steering wheel.

A quick search of the site will yield instructions.. for this sort of thing it's exactly the same as a regular Megane II, so it's always a good idea to search before asking a questiom that has been answered before..

I'm one of the ones who like to get my spanners out rather than pay dealer rates..

I've had my steering wheel off too many times in the past - I decided that I had to have cruise control, so I bought a steering wheel with the switches, so I could take those off.

Then I found out that I'd need a whole new indicator assembly - or I could try to solder in some extra cable myself.. I tried, but that didn't go very well, so I bought a cruise equipped indicator assembly on eBay, swapped over my stalks and installed.
I put the steering wheel back on and was very pleased with myself, until I turned the steering wheel to full lock.. and snapped the ribbon cable in the assembly.

So it was back on with the old indicator assembly, with the stalks swapped back in and I ended up ordering a new assembly from my local dealer - which cost a fortune, but at least didn't snap when installed.

Then I took a Stanley knife to my airbag, to cut out the area where the switches are installed, I managed it, but it looked pretty naff.

I ended up buying a new cruise airbag on eBay and now have that installed with operational cruise. in all, it cost me about £250, but that's because I had to buy new parts after my breaker's yard parts turned out to be no good..

:D
I have done jobs like this many times to differant cars, you begine to wonder if it was worth it, but you wont let it beat you will you, sometimes it costs you a fortune which you never talk about again!! and sometimes it costs peanuts and you feel elated you have got this for next to nothing, my worst moment was £600 (ish) on fitting twin hollies on a Fiat 131 mirafuri many years ago, cost me a fortune to get them seated and working but once done was it worth it? ABSOLUTLY it went like something off a shovel, apart from a slight modification to weight distributation, (bag of cement in boot) due to it stepping out on the rear on damp/wet roads, far to light in the rump area, best deal was electric heated mirrors for £40 for my bravo from Ebay and it worked 1st time! excellent.
great fun isn't it! Sometimes!
