Gear Knob inserts.
WELL DONE to Renault for such a stupid Idea [Again], "lets paint the top of the gear knob and the numbers of course" just to make sure they ware off in time and look a complete mess whilst they do so!
Bought one from a chap off ebay.fr in France conned on postage typical really charged 6Euro for the pleasure but stamped it with 0.75Euro, can't get one fron UK, shame nobody on here can manufacture one, mine is silver plastic with recessed numbers and gate in black, once in it looks like alluminium so it looks ok. Simple to fit took seconds to do with no damage.
I don't know how you would go about making one of these as I am not in anyway connected with manufacture, but if anyone wants to have a go I can post you my old knob end so you can make a template, looks like the French guy is making them as said can't find these anywhere on ebay.co.uk so it could be a bit of a money spinner as we are all having to put up with the crap idea of the painted knob insert, mine sold at £16 plus post.
If anyone wants t o have a go let me know. if not search www.ebay.fr for Vignette 6V pour pommeau megane, just watch your postage.

Re: Gear Knob inserts.
Small flat blade screwdriver, push it in a little I did it at the back by the stiching and you can lever it up carefully, insert is not glued or tabbed in place it is just a snug fit, once you start it off you can keep levering it up a little at a time more to save damage to the leather than being difficult., try not to push the blade ot far in or you will pull the leathr on the knob a little at a time.
Mine actually took around 3 levers to come out 1st one to get it going, 2nd one at the side just to coakes it a bit more, 3rd one allowed me to just about get under it and pop it out, pushing the new one is is simple.
Bison-fute75, I got mine from, he does 6v or 5v which I asume the V is gears, it looks aluminium but it is plastic, must admit it looks superb though now it is in and does actually look like ally as well , reverse is in the right place, total time it took to change old one out new one in less than 5 mins, simple!, part took around 4 days to get to me from France just took 6 Euro off me when it actually cost 0.75Euro on the envelope for post, but if I wanted to change it I would have had to buy a stick from Renault. I can not understand why they don't make them, but having said that why make a cheap part when you can sell the whole thing for 3 times as much, shame nobody in the UK can do it, there is definatly a window of oportunity here for some one with the know how, as said I have mine at home undamaged to make a mould from just missing some paint and a few numbers.
Anyone interested can have it as a template, might just help the rest of us to get a better knob instead of giving our money to the French....

That is what I have in mine now, before it was a useless painted thing, which you hands ware off the numbers or worse rings scratch off the paint so it look awful, mine is deffinatly pre face lift on a 2004 plate.

Re: Gear Knob inserts.
facelift came in 2006, and then they did another modification in 2008, started adding the GT front bumper to the front of the dynamique S model

Re: Gear Knob inserts.
I think mine is even pre, decent suspension oh and deffinatly pre enough paint on the stock alloys as I watch it flake and fall off!

Re: Gear Knob inserts.
I whipped my knob out and gave it a good rub down today
I then sprayed it plain silver and gave it some coats of laquer.
It looks much better than before, and I can remember where
The gears are without the schematic!
The wife was very impressed too!
