2005 2.0 automatic gearbox problem

Postby Scottjh » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:36 pm

I have had it for 6 months and worked fine, apart from a few minor issues.

Over the last few weeks, shortly after driving it, there is a clunking noise and the "check gearbox" and "service" lights come on.

Engine has to be stopped and restarted to carry on driving.

Is this a gearbox oil top up problem or something more sinister ?

Someone mentioned an MV (?) valve problem but I dont know what that is.

Any help guys would be appreciated cos I dont want to knacker the gearbox completely.

Cheers.

PS.

Forgot to mention that in the build up to this, the car was not changing up the gears as it should.

As a result, revs where high as was fuel useage obviosly.

My 2008 model had the same problem after 3 months. Took it back to the dealers and had a diagnostic done on it. Told me the only thing logged on the computer was "High gearbox oil pressure". No idea why, took it for 40 mile drive at my expense and gave it me back. It's done it a few times since but is usually ok after you switch off. The bump you feel is when the gearbox goes into "Limp mode" which allows you to drive home or to a garage but as you notice the gearbox locks in 2nd or 3rd gear, won't select manual and is sluggish at pulling away. Mine used to do it when you pulled up, not as you were driving. I would have it checked out just in case.
Hope this helped.

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. It did the clunk and warning light once only, and is now failing to change up gears, meaning the engine is revving it's nuts off long after I've got up to speed and taken my foot off the gas. It does evetually change up, but not after wasting precious petrol :x

Renault are notorious for their horrible automatic gearbox... hopefully they solved it with the new double clutch gearbox on the new CC

its a very common fault on auto gearboxes , its a fault within the hydraulics , can be fixed for around £400 !

As an side, how do you select manual? I didn't get an owners manual with my CC, and can't figure out how to use the M + - etc.

Hi mate, sorry I didn't get back to you until now.
You can download a handbook for your car from the Renault website.
All you have to do is register your details and your car on the site and it allows you to download a PDF file for it.
