SERVICE LIGHT - CHECK FUEL INJECTION

Postby stevebetts » Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:25 am

Hi, im new to the forum.
i have done a search but cant find an answer;
Just bought my wife a 2005 Megane CC Dynamique 1.9 diesel (how many brownie points did i get!!!!!)
We picked it up last tuesday and everything has been fine until saturday.
On Saturday, the service light came on with the message "check fuel injection".
The car runs fine.
If i wait until the car is warm and turn it off, everything is OK when i turn it back on.
I have heard somewhere that someone had this problem due to faulty glow plug.
Any thoughts?
Oh, the only thing that changed is we had reversing sensors fitted on saturday.
I guess it is just a coincidence, but thought i would mention it.
cheers

I would imagine it's a coincidence. Check each glow plug resistance using a multimeter. Standard is 0.6 - 1 ohm. If open circuit or shorted, its bust. They cost about a tenner each. One probe on the connector pin, and one probe on earthed bodywork. Do this test while the ignition is off (remove the keycard).

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

did the check at the weekend - one glow plug was gone. Changed it.....end of problem!

Another thing you could probably check is the Fuel Injectors. I had this problem a lot of weeks ago, and the problem was blocked fuel injectors. If this is the case, don't take it to Renault to get it replaced! It cost me an arm and a leg. Instead, take it to a different mechanic.
