Evening all,

This is my first post. I've been doing Google searches this afternoon, and most of the results directed me to this forum, So I thought I would sign up, and un-earth some of the problems with my Megane.

Now, I'm a KEEN Renault enhusiast, I've had quite a lot of the earlier style Renaults (With real Keys :-P ). This is my first Renault, with a Poxy Key-Card.

I've done a search on the Roof issue, and found a thread with the exact same problem, but it was a LONG time ago, and it didn't get resolved by the sounds of the thread, so I will put the feelers out again...

So, I unlock the car, put the ignition on, and press the 'Open Roof' Button.
All 4 windows go down, and then the roof starts to move. It goes about a Third the way open, then stops, and beeps.
So I de-press the button again, and it completes another third, and then beeps again.
After the third time I press the button, the roof opens right up. But the boot lid, and black plastic cover don't close. Then the whole thing just shuts down, and doesn't react to anything.

After much swearing, and trying to force the thing back up, I started looking online, and came across a manual close procedure, with a sequence of button presses to get it closed again.

In the other thread I found, it seems like the member fixed it, by replacing the micro switch in the top left hand side of the wind screen, but I've un-plugged this switch, and tried the roof with the switch both unplugged (Open Circuit), and then closed (Bridged the connections), and the roof still doesn't work. So unless this Micro-switch is doing more than just opening, and closing a circuit, there must be something else wrong with my roof.

Either way, I would like to find out the part number of this switch so I can order one.

Now, My second issue, is the car is currently a Non-Runner.
I think it's the Key Card. It was completely un-responsive when I collected the car. After replacing the battery in the remote, I managed to get the buttons on it working, but It meant 'bending' the key, to get the buttons to work, clearly a loose connection inside.
I am going to send the key-card off to a chap on ebay on Monday, who will completely refurb the thing, and send it back, for under Twenty Quid. Gotta be worth a try eh!
The thing I have, is the car doesnt even ask me to insert the card. It's just saying 'Electronic Fault' on the dash, and then doing nothing else. Inserting the key isnt allowing me to turn the second stage ignition or, or even try to start it. It just does the first stage, where the radio comes on, and you can do that without the key I'm sure.

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

Ben

Unless you've called it something other than a Microswitch, then the search facility is not working for me. :-P

Okay, at that price, I will fix the current switches.

I received my key back today from the chap on ebay who repairs them.
It works fine, unlocks the car as it should. But car still wont start.
I don't think it's acknowledging the key, as it makes no difference when I press the start button, weather the key is in the slot or not.

In regards to the roof. It works perfectly as long as I unplug the two switches on the windscreen frame as the roof goes back.
And then plug them in again as the roof is closing back up.
So it's defo the two switches at fault. Seems they've seized where the roof has been closed up for so long. I will give them a clean up and get them going.

But my main concern is getting the car running.

Time to bring the code reader home I think. Dash is just saying 'Electronic Fault' as soon as I get in the car.
