storing car for 10 weeks, what to do?

Postby matador » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:54 pm

Hi there,

I am going travelling for 10 weeks and I am wondering what to do with the car: store it or lending it to a friend to use it twice per month so battery doesnt go down.

If i decide to put it in storage, what I suppose to do with the car so when I am back is in working condition? I guess something like disconecting the battery is not the right solution?

In Xmas I let the car without use for 4 weeks and I was able to start it without problems (battery was weak but still able to start the car) but after 10 weeks I am pretty sure the battery would be flat and that could affect all the electronics of the car and specially onboard computer (2.0 privilege) ?

Thanks and regards,

L

If you decide to put it in storage get a trickle charger with a cut out switch so that you can leave it connected and charged.

It is advisable to release the handbrake and chock the wheels - they often seize.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

I don't see why disconnecting the battery will cause an issue.

Trickle charger with cutooff is a good idea, but there is always the risk of failure and fire.... so maybe, maybe not depends on how paranoid you are.

I would also inflate the tyres 2-3 lbs/sqin more as it will have less contact with the ground in 10 weeks will probably be about right.

well that what I would do
