2006 1.6vvt idling problem

Postby rangerover2490 » Tue Sep 13, 2011 11:11 pm

Hey all

Ive recently bought a 2006 megane monaco cabrio with 40,000 miles on the clock, in the last while however iver noticed it sounds like a diesel while idling! Very annoying!
I read around that it mite be a de-phaser pully, however the other day i noticed a little black hose handing in front of the front passenger wheel, someone mentioned this maybe a vacuum hose after working loose. Would this cause the rough / gruff idling?????

Thanks guys

When the dephaser packed up on ours, it only made a noise when starting from cold for a few seconds. It sounded more like the starter motor gear not meshing. It was replaced under warranty by Renault. Don't know if ours was typical for this fault.

It won't be the dephaser pulley - I had mine replaced a few months ago (had only had the car about two months!!!) and it basically makes a loud grinding noise for a couple of seconds on start up. Mine also idles very roughly...and given the amount of money I've spent on it already in seven months (over £1500) I'm less than impressed with a car that's less than perfect! I've had all coils and sparks changed, dephaser pulley, throttle body, crankshaft sensor, battery, alternator belt...failed MOT... I'll shush now!

Anyway, if you find out what it is, please let us know, I'm on the verge of taking some other CCs for a test drive to see if they all do it, or if it's just mine...and yours!

With regard to "rough" idling, mine is perfectly smooth and you can't hear it at all inside the car. In fact, I sometimes have to check the rev counter to make sure it's running!! Does n't help with the fault, but at least you know that there is definitely a fault with yours.
