Hello forum members,

Ive quickly looked on the forum and I dont think a lot is written about the Megane III. Maybe im in the wrong space, but heres my query...

I am looking for a nicely depreciated automatic c segment hatchback, with at most 60,000 miles on the second hand market, with a budget of at most £5500.
Don't really care about driving dynamics, just need to get from a to b with good mpg. Reliability is important.

The two cars I am stuck between are the megane(~2011) and the ceed (~2011).

Megane advantages:
- 1.5 dci engine has a good reputation.
- EDC transmission is dual clutch thus better mpg and tax.
- Newer than the ceed (megane from 2009-2016, ceed from 2006-2012)
- I guess a real world mpg of around 50-55, compared to ~40 mpg for the ceed.

Ceed advantages:
- Torque converter automatics are regarded as more reliable.

Frankly I would go with the megane due to better mpg and lower tax. The only question is reliability, especially of the EDC gearbox. I know its a dual clutch like the DSG, but not a lot is written about its potential lack of reliability when compared to the DSG.

Would you go for a ~2011 megane auto? Can you consider it a ticking time bomb in the 50,000 mileage range considering the complexities of dual clutch? Should I go for what would be regarded as the more reliability safe option Ceed? (even though it costs more to run?)

Many thanks for any responses in advance,

Dalle
