Good evening, ive got a mk3 megane coupe diesel with 90000 on the clock, when sat idling it sounds great but under acceleration I'm hearing a tappety noise, is this normal for a car with the mileage is got or have I got a problem.

Hi.
Its might be that your con rod bearings developed play. Make sure you do change oil frequently as those engines are quiet sensitive to lowe oil pressure or wrong oil. Do. Oil and filter change (make sure you use the right one) and hope for the best.

Hi, I've had 2 of these engines, both Main Dealer History and sub 40K miles. They both sounded 'tappety' at certain revs. I've also driven other cars with the same engine and noise so I certainly wouldn't worry about it.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, it turns out the clutch release bearing needs replacing, the chap I use is very trust worthy and reliable but he has suggested I replace the flywheel while we are doing it which I can understand but its turned it in to a £1300 job does this sound right replacing the flywheel as well.
Cheers
Andy.
