DRL question

Hi. I have changed the DRL bulbs in my mk3 coupe to led bulbs. I have noticed that when I flash my headlights the DRL will go out while headlights are on. I understand that when headlights come on at night DRL will go out. Is it normal for them to go out when flashing my headlights? I should have checked before I changed bulbs!
