The MK3 Coupe has a Daytime Running Light bulb which is near the amber turn bulb. Just wondering if this light always comes on whenever the car is started?

Hi mate, new cars all have daytime running lights now, new euro regs coming in this year. You can turn them off if you press the adac button (on the end of the wiper stalk) untill you get to the settings menu, then hold it in untill it takes you into the menu, scroll through untill you get to daytime lights option and set to off. Personally i leave my headlights on all the time as it stops idiots pulling out in front of my "invisible car"

Is it possible to replace the standard DRL bulbs with LEDs and if so, what is recommended?

Will this throw up an error message and need a ballast resistor?

Thanks

Simply fitting DRL led bulbs x 2 wont give a dashboard error .
I had 2x 63 led bulbs in there ,but from day one about 5-19 leds on each bulb didnt lightand after a couple of weeks some of them started to flicker.
You have 2 options .
1. get canbus friendly led bulbs ,they are expensive and largest I found for sale in the drl fitting was 36 led.

2.Get a 25 w resistor for each side and get a nice big 68 led + bulb. The smd ones give more output I found.

Option 2 is what i ended up doing using 102 led bulbs,102 per side ,and the same with the foglamps, tho I used 50 w resistors there.
