Engine cover missing

Postby Mick » Tue Nov 10, 2009 9:11 am

Hi experts, I am about to purchase a used Megane III 1.6 110hp from a Renault dealer. I notice on checking the car that the plastic moulded engine cover is missing. On asking the salesman i get the told "they don't fit them any more" ! Is this right ?

So what is the purpose of the engine cover ,if it is not present will it affect engine cooling or not protect the engine components.

Should I demand that one is fitted

Regards

The dealer is right. Renault fit plastic engine covers only on 1.9dCi, 2.0dCi, 1.4TCe, 2.0TCe.

Blimey - looks like Renault are going back to basics, or to be more precise, realising that putting a plastic cover over the parts you need to fix is counter-productive. I'm under the bonnet so often, the cover for my car stays in the garage.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

They realised that most of their engines are too quiet, and to prevent pedestrian deaths they decided to remove the plastic covers so pedestrians can hear the front bumper coming. :)

No engine cover... I would rather they save the money on the design of engine cover than the design of the elctroincs... or maybe they are saving money on both....

A SECOND HAND Megane 3, my phase one is looking old.... :-(
