Safety Belt ,Rear centre. Megane classic saloon style

Postby Bigglemate » Sat Dec 06, 2014 7:50 am

Urgent request:-
Dog chewed two belts - Not good! Costing a fortune.

Problem renewing the centre rear belt (near side replaced already)
This belt unit is within the back seat.

Not connected to electrics.
There appears to be zip alround back edge of the seat cover.
BUT no tab to open it with? Dealers unaware of special tool!!
Anyone got any ideas as to how to open it. Seat completely encased.

Once opened, I can gain access to the belt unit and replace it.
Amazingly I've spoken with three Renault dealers but none appear
to have come across this problem. Probably because cars replaced
after a crash. (Possibly no customers with dogs!!)
NB The 'belt eater' ones. Needless to say our beast is not allowed in the
car any more. Readers might wonder why two belts? Well the dog via
its harness was restrained by the seat belt, on release the belt retracted
-hence not noticed until more damage done. A razor would not have
been less clean, cuts through half the width..
MOT inspector insists on a centre belt, though only 2 OAP's use vehicle.

Incidentally, beware of the faded yellow indicator
bulbs, easy to replace rear. Front ones are a major rebuild job.
I understand this is now a keen spotlighted item.

But down to my request, I need advice as to how to release this zip
so that I can then subsequently reseal the rear of the back seat - Note
on this five seater, the back seat is split into two (1/3 & 2/3 thds.)

Thanks Freelanderuk.
I have now extensively searched through the numbers, eventually finding
the notes on the Megane seats on the last page
MR365Megane.pdf

Apparently I need a special tool 'CAR 1558.'

Amazingly none of the three Renault dealers, including the main Northern one,
could initially advise me on the method of extraction or re-installing procedure
nor tools involved.

This reference manual also advises what parts that can be reused PLUS importantly
those that need renewing. Very concise.
Sadly one is only presented with a series of numbers, so wading through all is
necessary.

Another BIG PLUS for the Megane II owners club.
Thank you.

Stan

Shock. Shock Wow!
The unit to refix the zip is available
VIA France 7-10 days delivery.

£39.00

Surely there must be an easier cheaper
way of joining it up.
Afterall the mechanism must be the
same as a wee tag unit on the average
zipped jacket.
Beats me why Renault don't leave a
similar wee fitting on these zips, to
those on my jackets - there must
be trillions throughout the world.
As yet not found a coat zip tag with the
right 'joining' profile though.
Yes. Probably rarely needed but £39!!
Me thinks we'll be on needle & thread.
Or just a seat cover. Not a serious
problem as it currently stands though.
Regards,
Stan
