2000 megane 1.4 16v wont start

i was driving up the motorway i heard a pop and the car just died now it is turning over but wont start.timing belt and major service was carried out approx 4000miles ago

what kind of "pop" was it, could be that the cambelt wasnt done properly and has come off, i really hope for your sake it hasnt though. Get it put on a diagnositic computer to see if its a problem with a sensor. My stepdads meg I 1.6, kept cutting out when driving, turned out to be the crank position sensor.
