front springs

Hi I have a megane cabriolet 1998 2,0l. I was wondering about the diameter of the front springs, is it the same in the top and the bottom? Mine are broken and have the same diameter (140mm).I have tried 4 different springs (from Renault) they were all wider at the bottom!!? TIA. Palle. By the way I live in Denmark.
