imobiliser problems

HELP, before I start I am a blonde dumb nurse, before you all say so
anyway I bought an old p plate coupe, as a quick run about, anyway I broke the key in the ignition within 2 hrs of having the car, a friend broke the barrel for me and hot wired it as an emergency, untim I could order a new one, anyway the next day I was having to type in the code before starting the car, now it will not start at all, I was told it would be the chip board above the mirror as it was wet, but I went and got another one but still no joy, please don't tell me i've killed it
