SLIGHT PLAY IN STEERING RACK !

I have a 05 plate megane 1.9 dci, its just passed is MOT yesterday (Thankfully as it failed its first one) anywau, there was one advisory saying there is slight play in the steering rack on the near side, am i right in thinking that i only need to change Steering arms and bushes, Or is there anything else that needs doing, or is there even a simplier fix ?? Any help will be much appreciated.

Does it not mean the track rod ends?

On my MOT I also had the same advisory

Its rare the full steering rack is faulty so you just need to change the rack rod arms they are about £80+VAT each side from renault or if you look on ebay there is usually a guy that repairs steering racks and for £100 he will send you a recon unit and you just send yours old one back to him.

Although at the mo there is a guy selling a new steering rack for £75 also on ebay

Quite a simple job to do any independent garage could do it in less than an hour

OK great thanks, I will look into the track rod arms, after changing this though would i need to have the tracking set again ? thanks

I did have my tracking checked but it was spot on nothing needed doing

that's called service exchange...you'll find most back street car parts shop will offer you this service, had the cv joints on megane 1 done this way, it only took 2 sets but what still half the price of the garage
