Never had a problem with my radio before, but took my car through a car wash last week and forgot to take the aerial off. The problem doesn't seem to be that the brushes damaged it, but a blow/dryer heater that had sensors to raise it when it came into contact with the car. They seem to have failed to notice the aerial. I thought the cable had snapped in the aerial, so bought a new one. Tried that and have the same problem, interference and static and a partial signal. I live in Manchester and cannot pick-up even local stations, yet I can pick up XFM strongly and this still cuts out. I still have the original aerial and a new bee-sting one, so my thoughts are it's either the bracket the aerial screws into or something inside the roof lining.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks
Anthony

Re: Aerial Problem
Hi there
The proplem is most likey in the Aerial Base on the top.In it theres a small Antenna Magnifier, and I have seen many times oxydation in this magnifier. You have to release the top inside to access the fastening, and then you can open it up(small torx screw on the bottom)
This base is not watertight,so this is most likely your proplem.
If this is the case, byu a new one and seal it.

Re: Aerial Problem
As previous posters had commented the problem was indeed the aerial amplifier, it was heavily corroded. Renault garage wanted £25 for the part and £50 for labour. I bought one from a really helpful guy on eBay who sells various Renault parts, he even included the aerial for £15 inc P&P. After a bit of pulling and twisting and the eventual removal of the side panel of the boot, the part was replaced and the aerial was working again. One word of caution to anyone attempting this is not to damage the roof lining by creasing it.
