Hi
New member and Ive recently purchased a used Renault Megane 03 DYNAMIQUE VVT 1.6 56000k. First of all thumbs up on the forum, loads of great information and sorry If im about to ask a repeated question but hopefully Il get the hang of the forum soon.
Anyway Im only 21 and havnt really got much of an idea of cars, so I was wondering is there anything I should be looking out for with my megane. I know its pot luck in which car has its faults but just wondering thats all.
Before I bought the vehicle the drivers window was broke, but he fixed this problem (£280) so then I purchased the vehicle. So ive noticed this is a current theme with some meganes so hopefully this problem is fixed.
Also when should I get the timing belt changed, albeit I only drive around 5-10k a year.
Thanks for your time and hopefully your help.

Re: Megane O3
you will need timing belt, pulleys and seprom belt, maybe waterpump..you may also want to consider having the dephaser replaced because if it goes, you'll be paying for this lot all over again....
then you have the service....oil, filters, sparks, etc...
and then hope they dont find anything else
not cheap i'm affraid

Ah not good news then. I do have a 1yr warranty with www.motorcarewarranties.com. I allready had it booked in for a service today with my local garage so would they tell me about these problems or would I have to point them out to them.
Thanks for your help.

To be honest this car is turning into a nightmare. Had it serviced today (they ddnt say anything about the belt or anything mentioned above) but what they did tell me it needs new brakes at the back, not just the pads but it needs hub and bearing complete, front also. Also the c.v boots, whatever that means.
So all in all, they said around £600.
Why oh why.

Re: Megane O3
do you know the car's service/repair history ?
Maybe the car has already had the dephaser issue and already had new cambelt/dephaser ?
worth trying to find out.

Re: Megane O3
Thanks for the help guys, but the garage I took it too is my gf uncle, a certified MOT inspector. So he wouldnt rip me off and has my best interests in mind. They said the back brakes were gona cost around £300 and then theres the front brakes and they said the cv boots have snapped so its more labour intensive than anything, also the handbrake has snapped.
So all in all it stands to reason the dealer I bought if from should have never sold it to me in the first place, as in this state it would not pass its MOT and not road worthy. I have been on to the phone to them and told them about my problems and said I will be taking them to trading standards if they dont foot the bill. Do you think I have a case.
Also I bought the car without its service history. Dodgy dealer?
But hopefully they will sort out these problems for me.
Cheers.

Ok. il try consumerdirect. Thanks for the help.
I know brakes are wear and tear, but the garage who sold it, known they needed doing and if they told me I had to fork out another £300 just for the back breaks I simply wouldnt have bought the car, and don't see how they can sell a car thats dangerous to drive to be honest.
Im only 21 and not knowing much about cars, so I think they seen me coming.
