high pitch sound when braking in slow speed....

Postby tobyngan » Fri Jan 23, 2009 8:56 pm

hi every one...... wonder if anyone had the same problem as mine.....
I've got a 57 reg 1.4 just been serviced 2 days ago....... I've got a high pitch sound coming out from the brake at low speed just before the car come to complete stop..... checked the brake pad 2 days ago at the service, just 20%worn.....went back to renno yesterday to have a look on it.....she said: "this is normal sir, it is just the dirt stayed between your brake disc and brake pad, however we can take the brake out to clean it for you, but this is chargeble, but it will happen again in the future anyway.....because the roads are dirty!!!" :no Am i driving in a different road than the others???? how come i can't hear every car have the high pitch sound when they brake???? :banghead

Have anyone had the same problem before????? and how did you fix it?????? pls help........thx :cry

Please let us know if you are a DIY person. Otherwise, you'll have to find a proper garage for inspection/repairs and supply EBC GreenStuff pads. These pads do wonders and the car feels much better (read their web site for the explanation). In my experience Renault dealers and many other garages are useless.

Hi, typical renault response (it's because the roads are dirty) do they think we're stupid, anyway as with all sqeaky brakes remove pads, clean all the dirt/dust from pads and calipers, re-assemble using copper grease on the back of the pads, this should do the trick at least for a while, and when the pads need changing EBC greenstuff pads are definately worth buying they cost more but offer better braking and last longer, if you don't feel confident in doing the brakes youself try any of the places like Quick fit or ATS etc, hope this helps.

make sure you have a decent amount of copper slip on the back of each pad. Also im going to go against whats been said before and say dont get green stuff pads. I had them on my 306GTi6 and nomatter what i did they caused massive vibration when braking hard and squeeled terribly, fitted some mintex 1144s and it cured it straight away. I dont know if these are available for the megane.

Agree, had green stuff on a rover 216 tom cat and it vibrated and squeeled, changed to mintex 1144 and they were fine. When we took the green stuff pads out they were all cracked, tried a few sets before the Mintex and they were all the same......crap!

Looks like im a bit late now, but if you are in alot of rush hour traffic, you will do alot of light breaking.
This tends to shine the pads and then they will squeal when u use them, mainly when your breaking is light, like just before you stop.
Normally if u break hard a few times it will stop it. So it could be normal but Renault still sound like they're talkin b*llocks, Dirt?!
