SINCE THE LAST TIME i WAS ON THE SITE, MY MILEAGE HAS NOW RISEN TO 140000 FROM 78000, i AM NOT SURE WHAT IS HAPPENING, COULD THE ORIGINAL MILEAGE HAVE BEEN TAMPERED WITH?.

In my opinion, it could be either of two things....the ecu or however the car records the mileage (guessing some sort of sensor) is knackered, but with the display going off and on are would be looking towards the ecu or some sort of short, think it'd be an auto electrician job

The dash writes the mileage into flash memory when the ignition is switched off. The described problem is probably due to loss of power, which initiates writing and in the same time causes an error. When the power is restored, the computer detects the error and makes a conservative guess. I have no idea which wire is a suspect -- try reading the manual in Links.
