Raining and brakes pulling to one side - Help please

Postby lucydci » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:25 pm

Went up the M6 yesterday and the rain was realy bad. I had been sitting at about 70ish for quite a few miles and had the need to feather the brakes, as soon as i touched the pedal the car pulled quite badly to the left. I applied the brakes a few more times and it was ok. I then found that if i did not use the brakes for a few miles the car would pull to the side under braking. If i used the brakes more often it was fine. Is this normal to behave like this in wet weather or could my car have a problem? Surley it can't be that the brakes are getting wet and its making that much difference :conf , has any one else noticed this? By the way the discs and pads were all changed just before I bought the car last September and I've done over a 1000miles since.
Any advice welcome
Thanks

It is not normal, investigate this ASAP!

Check the discs visually first. They should be smooth, shiny and identical on both sides.

Brake pads normally are slightly touching the discs thus keeping them warm at high speeds. Hence the obvious test -- drive a short distance without much braking and then check the temperature of the discs. The second test will be to brake a few times and check the temperature again. They should be equally warm/hot on the left/right. Touch them briefly -- they can be hot!
