5th Gear Revs

Postby Jasper » Mon Nov 17, 2008 7:16 pm

i have a 1.5dci which i beleive to be the 80 horse version on an 05 plate

I noticed today that at 70 mph it is quite load as if it could do with another gear, the revs at 70mph shows about 2600rpm

my jetta 1.9tdi is around 2200rpm and Pug 307 1.4HDI around 2400rpm

also the needles are pretty parrallel on both guages where as the other cars show a drop in rev needle compared to speed

Anybody out there let me know what their 1.5dcis rev to at 70mph

Many Thanks

My dCi 106 is the same as Wanda's. When I test drove the Megane it was an older dCi 100, and that seemed to have higher gearing, so it was close to 2krpm in 6th for an indicated 70mph.

Thanks Guys i could do with a 6th gear to drop the revs, it just seems to be crying out for it

Anybody else got figures for 5th gear in a 80hp 1.5dci

Mine is a 1.5dci 80bhp, I'm sure mine is about 2300 at 70, will make a note of it tomorrow and post back. I agree with you about needing an extra gear though!!

I know I've got a 1.6 petrol, but the gearing is quite poor on that to. 70 is reached in 5th at nearly 4K, and into the VVT band so drinking more petrol than I'd like!

For you DCI guys, would the box from at 106bhp model slot onto the 80bhp model? Probably an expensive mod, but may make even better consumption figures if the engine revs lower!? :hm

P.S - having had a 6 speed motor before, I have now twice tried to engage reverse at 80 ish - I can't believe there is no locking mechanism on the reverse gear in these cars.

Issues to Date:
Dephaser - replaced
Cam Sensor - replaced
Start up problems, goes to two cylinders unless reved to hell - annoying, but untraced cause.
Water Leak in Boot - removed, came back, removed, came back again. Given up
