What is the UPC?

Postby misterpomp » Sun Nov 09, 2008 8:54 pm

Newbie (and complete know-nothing about cars!) here - thanks for any advice / pointers anyone can give. Question is as simple as that really - I've had a second hand Megane for a year now and had one complete failure of the car (put down to UPC) and one 'Check Injection' message - put down to UPC. Both required replacement UPCs. This seems to consist of (from the bill); Protector, Cover Control Box and Surround G/Lever (all cheap) plus Fuse Box (not cheap). What does this do? Thanks again.

The UPC is the "universal Power Control" module.. It is actually a "semi-intelligent" fuse box.. ;-) .. that is located in the nearside of the engine bay..

These fail generally due to water ingress as their loaction is just asking for trouble, even with the improved (modified) cover.. Although I have seen a couple of failures due to general dry solder joints

Check that you still have the access hole cover (to reach the headlamp bulbs etc.)in the wheel arch as this is a major source of moisture ingress.
