hi all

just want to know of any ones expeirance of this fuel in there meganes? as i have just stated to use it (normaly use ordinary unleaded) and i can say that it makes a slight differance in my 1.6 53 plate megane, on cold start up (in the mornings) use to be a flat spot (unleaded) now that i use supa unleaded that have gone, there is slightly more power through gears(well it seems that way to me) i would be greatful if any one has any comments

i run mine on shell v max, it maybe pyschological, but it def feels more responsive and crisper....(when it is actually running properly)

my garage told me french cars especially run badly on cheaper fuel, and reeled off work done to rectify problems caused by it for customers with peugeots and renaults etc,,,,

Tried V-Power, no difference from normal shell fuel on mine (2008 57 reg 1.6 VVT). However, there is a difference in economy between normal shell fuel and cheap supermarket grade fuel (namely Tesco/Esso). I can hold 44mpg with Shell and struggle to stay above 40 when I fill up at tesco. I never thought it made a difference before!

I have been lead to believe that they are different octanes with the premium stuff having a higher octane which helps it to ignite easier, therefore making the car more efficient.

I do quite a lot of driving and fill up wherever i'm at (usually supermarkets as cheaper) and can honestly say never get any difference between any of them. Have tried the diesel extra etc also additives and never had any better or worse economy.
Reading other posts though i think some cars prefer different fuels!!! But mine is happy with anything i stick in her

Same here, never noticed any change in Diesel whatsoever....

Super unleaded / Vpower / BP Ultimate will all have an octane rating of between 97 and 99 (unless you go for the rare silver pump at BP with 102 octane, but is about £5.00 a litre ). Tesco Super is 99, V Power is 98/99 depending who you listen to, Sainsbury's is 97. Standard Unleaded is 95 Octane.

Higher octanes are only worth while if you have an iginition system that can adapt the ignition point, i.e. advance/retard as required and a high performance car. I have tried Tesco's and V Power in my 1.6 and can say I saw no real difference in economy, and only a very minor difference in performance (ran a bit smoother), so nothing to justify 4 - 6p a litre premium.

However, when I had a Seat Leon Cupra (1.8 20 V Turbo) it ran like a dog on normal petrol, but flew on super/v power.

i noticed the difference. improved fuel ecomony and smoother running.

i would love to know how u get 44mpg from a 1.6vvt, same as mine, mind u, mine is a 52 reg, and struggle to get 35mpg!!! fully serviced, all tryres correctly inflated...

It's gotta be the type of driving, I do town driving mostly and currently get 33 - 35 mpg maximum. If I take it on a run it improves. Would love to find a way of getting 40 + round town.........

thats true! i go on long motorway run every other weekend and am gettin bout 37/38mpg tops on these runs!!! only do 10 miles a day to and from station so i suppose it ain't all bad really

what speed you going? i get 46mpg on motorway at 70mph

Which magazine did a report last month and concluded that it was inconclusive ! They used a dci Megane and found normal diesel was better than the super stuff.

I have a 1.6 petrol and do a round trip of 35 miles per day includes the M6, which is slow in a morning and flowing at night the mpg meter never moves off 37.3 mpg

even if i was to stick to 70mph on the motorway i still don't get any more than 37/38 tops out of the mpg!!!!

strange....anyone know why there would be a such a huge differnce in relatively similar cars?
