Dash Illumination

Postby robznet » Wed Oct 01, 2008 7:40 pm

Hi all - not been around for a while, hope everyone's ok.

Been having a search on the forums on my problem but not come up with a def answer. Basically the left side of my heater control panel illumination has gone! There seems to be confusion as to the lighting being standard bulbs or leds, so does anyone know for sure, and if so can the bulbs be replaced, or is a new unit required?

If anyone has done this job themselves, would it be possible to provide me with a walkthrough on the exact procedure? Any advice from fellow members would be very much appreciated.

i have a similar problem like this, but mine is the lights will go off and then come back on. i'm assuming its a loose connection somewhere as a good whack usually sorts it out

Panic over!!!! (at least for a while). On my way home this evening, sitting in traffic as per usual I remembered some of my other cars sometimes responded quite well to a quick punch to restore non working lighting. Guess what - so did the Meg! A blow to the dash just to the left of the air distribution knob bought the lights back on. They stayed on for the remainder of my journey, but just to be sure, I've just popped outside to try again - all ok!

Thanks for the help on this problem, I will keep the boxing gloves handy for the next time the lights decide to go out! :-(

we call it 'Impact engineering' or 'IE'
this is however being superseded by the 'Executive reset' or 'ER' also known as the switch off then on again a favored fix by the IT crowd.

so which to use IE or ER, I prefer the IE route falling back to the ER should it fail, the ER is not as reliable on older equipments or indeed anything other then a computer but seeing as most things contains computers it is worth a try.

Spot on Bumpy, "impact engineering" for now, the "executive reset" method didn't seem to work!! :banghead

to ER is only human, but for a good example, IE is a good one.

see what i did there? I know i just cant help myself its a gift. I have a good strap line for teaching soldering iron safety 'if its not in the hand, its in the stand'. Or for training in my job (mainly outside) 'it ain't traning if it ain't raining', or 'I ain't going if it ain't snowing' and my favorite 'if its sunny im going to the pub'

cheers.......
