dephaser fix question

Postby ft101 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:28 am

Hello

The dephaser is stuffed on my 1.6.

I have had the car two weeks, purchased from dealer. I just told them about the problem, and they said the warranty will cover it (warranty provided by Vehicle Guarantee Services). I just spoke to them, and they say pulleys are not covered under the warranty. Further, they only pay for upto 40 pounds per hour so to go to a backstreet garage and not a main dealer.

This is *presumably* a specialist dealer job, who are quoting 80 pounds per hour.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

thanks

The dephaser is not a pulley in the traditonal sense where it's a wheel that runs a belt (afaik)
the dephaser is a internal part of the engine and not at ancilliary part.
sounds like you need to get back on to the warranty company about it.

there's no reason why a backstreet garage can't replace one..although you might want to look for a indepentant Renault specialist who has experience of chnaging them..they'll probably do a better job.

OK thanks for your information, i'll see what they say

Does anyone know what the success rate is, or am I likely to be replacing this on an ongoing basis? I'm tempted to get shot of the car, as much as I generally like it.

Thanks

Vehicle Guarantee Services Ltd will not cover the item except on a 'five star' policy, just in case anyone else is using them!!

Next step is to see what the Car Dealer will do in respect to my statutory rights etc. So car dealer speaking to Renault this afternoon. I also called Renault customer services, as my car is approx 1 year and 2 weeks past the end of the manufacturers warranty - they said they knew nothing of a 'camshaft dephaser' problem (yeah right!) and could only guarantee to look into my case once the work is done, and not guarantee to help out with the costs.

*sigh* the megane 2 has been out for almost 6 years, you would think dealers and mechanics would know of the dephaser issue... :/
