Hi guys
just looking for some feedback- i have the 1.416v with FSH, (just had 36k service at 34k) and had just about everything ever mentioned on here to enable it to run properly fixed/changed etc...but one thing does puzzle me- do all these 1.4 engines sound rough on idle from outside?....kind of a constant 800RPM rev but just sounds a bit rough/tappety/chuggy..my dad has a similar age new shape astra 1.6 and by comparison this sounds really clean and crisp and quiet....
is this the difference between vauxhall powerplants and renault?
or should my megane be smoother?..from the inside seems fine..but then thats probably all the sound proofing...

Re: megane idle
Some people have asked me if my 1.4 is a diesel. Tappet rattle is at it's worst decelerating through 3,100 to 3,000rpm.
A Renault tech acknowledged that it was noisy but would not take any action as it didn't affect fuel consumption or performance. I think there is an oil pressure issue with this engine.

Re: megane idle
hey
thanks- i just think its a poorly developed power unit- in a pretty high state of tune considering power output...and prone to problems... weird thing is my partner had the same engine in their 52 plate clio, same output etc and they never once had any problems with it...even sounded different....

Re: megane idle
i know how you feel my 1.4 is in the dealer the now getting checked for a second time,
having had the idle software reset as it would idle at anything up to 2000 rpm
that's noisy when sitting at traffic lights and some people think you are being an idiot

Re: megane idle
Renault engines are known for their 'rattly/diesel-y' sound. Actually the 1,4 engine is sometimes affectionately called by owners as a 'rattler'. Its normal.
