Brake pads

Postby Toosh » Wed Jul 16, 2008 5:42 pm

I went to Kwik-fit today to take advantage of there free brake inspection offer and because my brakes were squeaking. Anyway they rang me up and adviced that the front pads were getting low and would i like them replacing, Not one for messing about ringing round garages and taking more time off work to take it i said "yes you may aswell" (MOT soon too and all that).

It cost £72.19 for the pads. Im just wondering if thats a fair price and what others have paid for front brake pad replacement.

Im not too worried if i did get a little ripped off as there service was very good and now i have free brake pad replacement for as long as i own the car :D

I paid just under £50 having it done at the local Renault dealer.

EBC GreenStuff pads are worth consideration. They give better grip, no fade under repeated high-speed braking and much less dust, as they use better materials.

If your brakes were squealing -- check the discs and calipers first. The discs must be smooth and shiny. Remove any corrosion from the calipers, paint the parts where corrosion was found and make sure the pistons are moving freely. Don't forget that the brake fluid should be changed every second year.

Ray, as LGC said, if GreenStuff are used, then they should be installed all around. Otherwise the ballance will be disturbed!

@ Jonault. Thats seems very cheap for a dealer.

@ AlexB. Sound advice, thanks.
