Process of elemination.

Start with coil 1, swap out for new coil and test. If still happens move to coil 2, then 3, then 4. Once you have been through all coils it will prove one way or another if it is a coil issue.

Typical symptoms of dephaser pulley failure.

Rattle on cold start every morning, increased fuel consumption, decreased performance, rough running, engine dying for no reason etc.

It costs about 500 pounds for the whole job (new pulley, cam belt etc.), but if you have a low mileage Renault will pay some of the cost...

it is right hand side of ther engine (when looking under bonnet) on top of the bell housing of the gearbox. it cannot be seen from the engine bay without a mirror. the haynes manual recommends removing the battery and battery tray to get better access to it, but i think it can be replaced without doing this, with a bit of fiddling about.

Aircon compressor not kicking in is a sign the air con gas is either low or not present.

Kwik fit (among many others) do an aircon service for about £45 and have a promise to increase performance by 10% or your money back. It may be worth taking it in for an aircon service, as a regas and general once over may cure the problem.

Of course, it could be found the gas is leaking from somewhere, which could be any of the pipes or the compressor its self. No easy way to test without a service really, unless you are confident with working with aircon systems.

If it's newly purchased take it back under warranty to get it checked out.
