ESP retro-fit

Postby sk40 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:56 pm

Greetings all,
I've just prised off the panel holding the cruise control, panel light dimmer and headlamp leveller switches and noticed a blue multi-pin connector wher the ESP switch would be. Obviously this plug is not connected to anything, and I was wondering whether ESP could be retro-fitted to the car with the addition of the correct switch.
Can this be done?
Will Renault supply the switch?
Will the brains of the car need to be re-configured?
Grateful if anyone could shed some light onthis please.

Many thanks.

Needs sensors etc. too - not feasible, unlike cruise control.

I agree, would probably involve serious costs, otherwise probably more people would have already retro fitted this option.

huge time gap here but..............
as all megane 2's have ABS the esp system uses the same wheel sensors. i.e the one sensor does both jobs all you should need is the ecu reprogrammed and the switch. there may be a control module but i can't see it being a major job.
i'l have a look at the wiring diagrams for the with and without and highlight any mayor differences

Isn't there a yaw sensor to detect lateral G force and a sensor to feedback steering wheel input ? I think it would be cheaper to buy a new car.

You would need a different ABS/ESP hydraulic modul, over 1000 €, Renault would charge even more. You need also a yaw sensor (under seat) 400 €, and the sensor on the steering wheel €€€. Then you would need someone with CLIP to put everything together and reprogramme the ECU (if not the new ECU). Very expensive job, IMHO.

Ok guys, im on this one now.

- Ive got the ESP button (3 buttons panel, not possible to find the button alone..)
- Ive got access to CLIP
- Ive bought a hydraulic module for usage with ESP(to replace the normal ABS module) on the scrapyard

2nd part:

- Steering angle sensor, is already fitted in the steering? i dont find anything on the Renault spare parts (official webapp for identify and order spares). Maybe the steering column is the same on every car, then its used or not .
- yaw sensor, Gforce sensor, what ever you want to call it, as far as i could find all cars use it, Ref: 82 00 074 266, its the same for cars with only ABS or plus ESP.

So, can anyone confirm this info? I appreciate your help, it may be more easy to retro-fit this then it seams.

Other info is the ref for the ABS module w/O ESP: 7701067590 or 7701062932, with ESP Ref. 8200355248 (at least this ref, i think there is at least one more ref)

Phase 1 megs came fitted with the full wiring loom, even if they didn't have all the options.

Yep, I've been able to add heated seats and tyre pressure sensors so far :D

But any idea which one of the two this connector is for? I'm not sure whether it's cruise or ESP.

Hello.
I'm new in this forum. So far I have found a lot of useful information on this site. I'm wondering if there is anyone who have done this (retrofit esp).
This would be really great news. So far I have access to clip, I have wiring diagrams for megane 2, all I need is to look for part number on abs unit to locate if there is esp support and if not replace it, connect the esp off button and ... ?

any help will be useful or any steps already made to achieve retrofitting.

Many thanks MT

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm interested in retro-fitting ESP on my Laguna II.
Did someone successfully finished that process?
