Correct Inlet air temperature

Morning all,
In the continued quest for the solution to my undiagnosable random misfiring problems I hooked up my car to a diy diagnostic tool in the hope it might give me some insight into what is going on.
(2004 1.6vvt 31,000 miles - P0300 and P0330 - Random misfire and misfire on cylinder 3 - flashing TF light only when warmed up, idling and outside temp > 19C)
In truth I don't really know what I'm looking at but noticed that whilst idling (engine warmed up) the air inlet temperature was reading 29C, whilst the outside air temperature was 20C. Now I appreciate that the air is getting sucked in across a warm engine bay, but is such a difference normal? My theory is that the MAF sensor is reading high, causing the car to use a leaner mixture resulting in a misfire?? Does this sound plausible to anyone? What else should I be looking at when the car is plugged into the diagnostics?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated (unless it's to take it to a Renault garage - they're never getting my custom again!!)
Thanks,
Al.
