Does anyone fil up with BIO diesel? I'm thinking of giving it a try as there's a few places I can get it from up here but want to know if anyone else has had any negatives about it first. I'd be making a saving of 30p a litre.

I dont use it myself but have thought about it. They do say it indirectly contributes to higher food prices.

The interesting thing with bio diesel (using chipfatoil) is that the price of cooking oil (big 20litre drums) have doubled since last Christmas and if you check in supermarkets cooking oil can be as much as £1.30 a litre compared with £1.31 for normal diesel.

I think as more and more people start to use it you will find a new "tax" slapped on to it.

5% are already added to the regular fuel in the UK by law since April 2008. It is good for lubrication. You can add further 5-10%, but anything above will put the fuel pump in danger. The manual forbids adding more than 10% of diesters to the fuel. Damage shows up with long delay, and results in contamination of the whole fuel system with metal shavings. It is very expensive.

So, don't take risks!

So, be careful with "injector cleaner" additives to fuel, unless someone else have been using them for longer than several years!

Be very careful with Bio Diesel.

Anything over a 5% blend (5% Bio Diesel 95% regular Diesel) could cause damage to the delicate seals in the fuel system. I have used Bio Diesel before; it went okay on it but clogged up the fuel filter

By 2009 all new Renault Diesel engines work safely on a 30% blend?

I thought the UK gov went with 2.5% minimum, although some fuel was already 5% biodiesel

In the UK it Is 2.5% since April 2008, rising to 5% by 2010. Everything above 5% must be clearly labelled. Read this:

They use 5% blend in France now.

Current Megane II manual permits maximum 10% diesters (biodiesel) in the fuel. See pp.200-201 here:

That wouldnt harm a normal uk meggy would it?

in germany we also have 5% biodiesel added....they WERE thinking of increasing this to 7% but luckily this was hammered down....dont know the reason why, though.
