oil leak!!!!!

hi everybody, when i changed my boost control solenoid yesterday i noticed that i have an oil leak. if you take the engine cover off there is a black pipe going over the engine and at the top there is a circular thing which connects the pipes, firstly what is the circular thing for? and the leak is coming from the pipe going to the rear of the engine where it meets the circular thingy i will put a cable tie or jubilee clip over it as it was quite loose, has anybody else had this problem and what did you do to sort it?

Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. Most likely nothing serious, just a loose pipe. Still make sure that the system is not blocked. Otherwise it will blow the seals or cause excessive oil consumption. These pipes and the positive pressure valve (the round black thing) should be replaced from time to time.
